My brother Ray Charles used to tell me, “Every music has its own soul, Quincy. It doesn’t matter what style it is, just be true to it.” He refused to put limits on himself, & it was one of the most important pieces of musical advice that I ever received. It’s only when we stop confining ourselves to the restrictions that categories place on our creativity, that we can fully unlock the power of music in its purest form…& that’s exactly why it makes my soul smile to see young kids like @jacobcollier learning this lesson early. He’s not afraid to mix all of his various musical backgrounds into one pot & even more importantly, he recognizes the beauty of WORLD MUSIC & how it is the foundation for everything else!
