To this day, one of the most profound honors that I’ve had was to be able to call Madiba my friend & brother. I'm so very blessed to have known him for 44 years...before, during, & after Robben Island. He left me the food pan that he ate out of in cell #5, & it is a constant reminder of his dedication to the human race...no matter what it may have meant for him personally. He truly was the most incredible man I've ever met in my life & I'm grateful for every lesson he taught me.
I've told you this many times, but only because it's important...he would always make me write down the phrase, "umuntu, ngumuntu, ngabantu," which means, "a person is a person because of other people"...The collective is always stronger than the individual. He was & will forever remain a beacon of hope, inspiration, unity, & strength to not only South Africa, but to all of humanity. Today, on what would've been his 100th birthday, I hope we're all reminded of, not only his legacy, but how we can further the mission that he set out to accomplish...Love, compassion, & hope for all mankind...Miss U forever & always my brother.
