In solitude, Hardi prays to the spirit believed to reside in the peak of Mount Lawu, Java's most spiritual volcano located between East and Central Java, Indonesia. Hardi, a hermit, has lived atop this massive active volcano for more than 30 years and prays at this remote spiritual alter three times a week. Hardi follows the religious traditions which started in ancient times even before the Majapahit era. Previously known as Wukir Mahendra, it is believed that the top of Lawu is where the gods decended from heaven. I will be returning next month to this most amazing country of Indonesia, so thankful for all the beauty and kindness this most fascinating culture and people has always given.
