We pay tribute to Claude Lanzmann – the celebrated French filmmaker, best known for his Holocaust documentary film ‘Shoah’ – who passed away yesterday at the age of 92.

It was a privilege to work with him last year to facilitate the sale and safekeeping of his 112 passionate love letters from feminist writer Simone de Beauvoir, who described him as ‘my destiny, my eternity, my life’.

The letters now reside in the library of Yale University, along with de Beauvoir's manuscripts and personal archives.
