Photo by @FransLanting // This may look like a vision of an alien planet, but it actually is a geyser from Nevada’s Great Basin. Primitive bacteria stain its sides with fantastic colors while hot water erupts from deep underground. Some scientists believe that this is the kind of extreme environment where life may have begun on earth billions of years ago. Please note that this exquisite geyser is very fragile, and it's located on private property not open to the public. I photographed it with special permission from the owners.
