Can you spot which salmon is wild vs farmed? Wild salmon is higher in astaxanthin, a potent mitochondrial antioxidant that gives it vibrant color. It’s also much lower in toxins compared to farmed salmon. Farmed salmon is penned up and eats antibiotics, corn, soy, and whatever other cheap food industrial fish producers can come up with. Fish farming is also environmentally destructive because fish pens create diseases that transfer to wild fish, weakening their hearts and dramatically reducing populations. Given that eating farmed fish is bad for you, and creating it is bad for the world you live in, don’t order it! A sushi restaurant put the cheap stuff on a plate I ordered even though it wasn’t listed on the menu, which is what let me take this beautiful photo to show you the difference!
