Seven paintings by Chinese-French artist Zao Wou-Ki are offered in our Asian 20th Century & Contemporary Art Evening Sale in Hong Kong.

In the 1950s, Zao transitioned from figuration to abstraction. No longer focused on form, his abstract colour paintings from this period were full of depth, projecting a vital, organic quality.

Of ’14.12.59’, an auction highlight, ‘Zao has created a visual shock to the senses,’ says Eric Chang, our International Director of Asian 20th Century & Contemporary Art in Hong Kong. ‘It can be read as depicting a sunrise; we feel heat, as well as a sense of movement and instability.’
