The World at Night project
Swipe left for the entire view. Taishan or Mount Tai is an unusual sight at night where two different worlds merge in a single scene, ancient temples against modern citylights. I was exploring this contrast from dusk to dawn, the bridge of past and present. This is a mountain of historical and cultural significance located north of Tai’an in Shandong province. The most sacred mountain in China (traditionally one of the nation’s Five Great Mountains), Taishan was visited by the emperors and has been a place of worship for at least 3000 years. It served as one of the most important ceremonial centers of China. Today thousands of people visit the mountain everyday, specially for the rising sun from the peak.
