It’s not often I pose for a picture with a drugged animal however this one is slightly different. Pictured here is Maxi, one of the hyenas that were released into @dinokenggamereserve almost 4 months ago. Despite being captive raised she’s fairing very well and in excellent overall condition which means she is regularly finding her own food and avoiding conflict. What was pleasing to see was how she avoided us and when we got too close ran away. It took hours to finally dart her and change her collar. Although things are going well we are a long way off claiming this as a success story but so far so good. All involved feel that is has been really worth the efforts. The young male who was with her also appeared to be in really good condition. We have learnt so much from this release project for potential future releases of these magnificent and extremely important creatures in the ecosystem.
