#SpeakingInDance | “In every ballet, there’s a moment when a character grows into something else,” said @heeseoabt, who opens the spring season of @abtofficial at the @metopera on Monday as Giselle. In this variation, Hee says, Giselle — a peasant girl who goes mad and dies of a broken heart after finding that her lover, Albrecht, has lied to her and plans to marry another — turns into a woman. “This is when she commits to him, and why it looks so tragic when she finds out that he’s not who he says he is. She’s so full of love.” It helps that the ballet’s peasant pas de deux comes just before this solo; instead of warming up in the wings, Hee prefers to stay onstage. “It’s a long time to sit on the stage before my variation, but I love to watch my friends dancing,” she told the @ニューヨーク・タイムズ writer @giadk. “It puts me in the right mood to dance.” @_flodur made this video for #SpeakingInDance, our weekly series exploring the world of #dance.
