The vase was commissioned by the Qianlong Emperor (1711–1799) and is marked with auspicious emblems of peace, longevity, good fortune and plentiful offspring.

‘Most emperors were obsessed with living a long life and Qianlong was no exception,’ says Chi Fan Tsang, our Head of Chinese Ceramics and Works of Art in Hong Kong. ‘In fact, he had many children and turned out to be one of the longest-reigning emperors in the Qing dynasty.’

An extremely rare 'doucai' and famille rose ‘anbaxian’ vase, tianqiuping. Qianlong six-character seal mark in underglaze blue and of the period (1736–95). 21 ¼ in. (54 cm.) high. Estimate: HK$70,000,000–90,000,000.
