Constantin Brancusi’s ‘La jeune fille sophistiquée (Portrait de Nancy Cunard)’ is the centrepiece of our Impressionist and Modern Art Evening Sale in May.

This unique sculpture, conceived in Paris in 1928 and cast in polished bronze in 1932, comes from The Collection of Elizabeth Stafford.

Along with her husband Frederick Stafford, Mimi acquired the work directly from Brancusi during a visit to his studio and it has remained in the family’s collection ever since.

'This is a daring and exquisite work of art’, says Conor Jordan, our Deputy Chairman of Impressionist and Modern Art in New York, and one of the ‘vanishingly small number’ of the artist’s bronze sculptures with its original carved base not in a museum collection.
