Something so elegant and simple about them. Their draping posture, or was it was the drum and its gentle vibration, the murmur of prayers or the scent of moss on rocks hewed centuries ago. Maybe it was all of this and more that late afternoon at the sacred Biete Medhane Alem in Lalibela, Ethiopia. I just remember it being calming.
