The next time you walk through Redwood trees consider this ancestral knowledge gifted to our @gatherfilm crew by @sammygensaw, the gregarious leader of the @ancestral_guard: “For the Yurok tribe there is a tradition that when a baby is born the father takes the after-birth (the placenta) and places it at the root system of a baby Redwood tree. They take care of that tree the same as the child with the belief that the health and spirit of both are now linked”
~ “Science now that tells us that mycelium connects all Redwood trees in the forest. If a tree is sick, the forest knows and sends energy it’s way. By putting our genetic material at the root systems of these trees for thousands of years we have also become part of this network of interconnectedness. It’s something spiritual for my people but I also believe it’s probably true on a molecular level. These are types of traditions the @ancestral_guard is fighting to be brought back!!” ~
