‘The Mayersdorff Bar’ by François-Xavier Lalanne is a highlight of our Post-War and Contemporary Art Evening Sale on 17 May.

Created in 1966 for the private collectors, M. and Mme. Mayersdorff of Brussels, this is a unique work that captures the distinctive visual language of Les Lalanne – one that continues to challenge and transcend categorisation today.

‘The unique bar was created in the most pivotal year of François-Xavier Lalanne’s early career,’ explains Jeremy Morrison, our European Head of Design at Christie’s London (@morrisonmodern).

‘The only other comparable bar was designed by Lalanne for Yves Saint Laurent. This larger, agiler work has an immediate and palpable presence whilst retaining its functional appeal, which was so important to Les Lalannes’.
