“The guys who built this car are like the Michelangelos of the auto world.” William Deary first saw a Shelby Mustang when he was 17, and that was it. “I fell in love,” he said.

Mr. Deary, of Jackson, Mich., came from a modest family and at one time could not imagine even owning a car. But he started collecting Carroll Shelby posters and T-shirts, and after building a successful company, ended up collecting Shelby cars. Today, he has a private museum he calls the Carroll Collection.
