Scientists have developed a soft robot — or SoFi for “Soft Robotic Fish” — that looks so much like a real fish that it can swim unobtrusively alongside marine life while capturing still and video images.

Underwater robots have been around for years, but most are larger, tethered to boats or powered by bulky propellers. The SoFi, on the other hand, can dart around other fish and coral reefs without kicking up a fuss.
