A seaplane flies low over Australia’s Great Barrier Reef, which is said to be the only living structure visible from outer space. The northern section of the #reef dodged a bullet this year, and was spared the severe #coral bleaching that has destroyed as much as half the living reef’s northern section over the past few years. #climatechange The southern section seen here has been left relatively unaffected. With 1,500 species of fish, 4,000 species of mollusks, and 500 types of seaweed, it’s one of the world’s most biologically diverse environments. #back2Oz #greatbarrierreef
