? Imagine an improv comedy show where dancing, not laughs, is the currency. Then imagine a jam session where the band is compelled to keep the dancers’ pace instead of the other way around. Welcome to @LayeRhythm, an occasional party where random ideas turn into music and movement. The event focuses on freestyle dancing — impromptu, unchoreographed movements driven by the spirit of the music. “We’ve lost that social connection dance used to have,” said Mai Lê Hô (@mailegrooves), who organized @LayeRhythm after touring as a dancer with the revered house music producer Theo Parrish. Here, @sashafoto captured Desmond Howard (@visionofa_king) performing in a @LayeRhythm session called Dance Upon a Rhyme, in which a rapper and a dancer improvise cooperatively.
