❤️?Last night...heaven got a special gift...my grandpa. His name is Guy Rasmussen, and he’s one of the greatest men I’ve ever known. He is my mama @theshannonjohnson ’s daddy. And lung cancer ended his life far earlier than I was ready to let him leave this Earth. He was the sweetest, most tender hearted guy! He was a real life cowboy, rounding up cows by himself at age 5. And in a family that hunted & fished, my sweet grandpa was the first one to say he didn’t want to kill any animals. He had the most tender heart & would cry if he saw any animal hurt.
He was a contractor with a perfectionist eye and built many beautiful homes for people. He always smelled like cigarette smoke, leather and cologne to me.
He built hot rods and raced them in the 50’s and told me funny stories about how’d they’d bet each other pink slips to win each other’s cars. Going fast is in my blood...he raced dirt bikes, cars and even race boats. He was a veteran that wore his veteran hat almost every day and loved dogs and every animal so much! I thought he was the Marlboro man growing up. He was the sweetest, English Toffee loving, funny, adorable grampa I could’ve ever been blessed to be born to. I will miss hearing his raspy voice call me “honey” and hearing him tell me...anything and his laugh and smile that. His eyes were the most amazing shade of light, glowing blue...like glowing, blue, sea glass. His work ethic was amazing and he’s worked hard his entire life.
He would say “fur-knee-ture” instead of furniture and “Sun-dee” instead of Sunday...which I loved.
He loved reading old western books and Latin Jazz. My hope is in heaven...where I know without a shadow of a doubt that I will see him there! I bet he’s up there hi-fiving my dad!
The two greatest men that have loved me the most...are now both in heaven and my heart feels broken. As my grandma Barbara used to say: “we do not have a HOPELESS end, but an ENDLESS HOPE”....I know my hope is endlessly waiting in heaven where I will run into my dad and grampa’s loving arms.
