Photo by @jeffmauritzen. Sunrise at Ahu Tongariki on Easter Island. The name Easter Island was given to it by the Dutch Explorer Jacob Roggeveen when he landed there on Easter Sunday 1722. The island is also commonly referred to by its Polynesian name, “Rapa Nui” for being part of the Polynesian Triangle and “Isla de Pascua”, it’s Spanish name, since it’s a special territory of Chile.
