Kindness doesn’t always beget kindness. Doing the right thing doesn’t necessarily yield a pleasant result. Taking the higher road or choosing not to defame others doesn’t mean that they’ll return the favor. Grace is sometimes met with hostility. And loyalty is such a rarity. It’s easy to take the people and gifts we become comfortable with for granted. Disappointments happen, boundaries are tested and insecurity can bring out our worst or at best our inauthentic selves. Life can be gritty and if we’re honest, we’ve probably been on both sides of the coin at some point or another. That’s what the last few weeks have felt for me. Beauty and grit. And sometimes it feels like sandpaper rubbing right on the most tender part of my heart. And other times it feels like what-the-heck-ouch! But this is when choices really count. Who we are is never contingent on outer factors or other people even those closest to us. So while deep in it, we can still have our wits about us and we can also be kind, extend grace and have compassion too, including with ourselves. This is more or less my #notetoself but I thought I’d share it here for those who might be able to relate. Big ups and high fives to you. Keep on keeping on and let’s remain on that high road. It matters and while no one may see, it counts and Life will remember you. Here’s to the brave hearts, the doers of integrity and the gentle souls. You are my heroes. ❤️

PS - some days just hit hard and nothing makes sense. But that’s sometimes the perfect opportunity to create and discover. My panacea has been creative tools. And my favorites of late are my VN and the new Model 451 pen by @franklinchristoph. The lavender seemed lonely so I added the cherry red to keep it company. Perfect logic there, right? :)
