Recently, our reporter @dan_bilefsky returned to his native Montreal to join our Canada reporting team. To get reacquainted, he set off on a #roadtrip through Quebec, inspired by suggestions from @ニューヨーク・タイムズ readers. During a stop in Maniwaki last week, he reconnected with Cezin Nottaway, a 38 year-old Algonquin chef. Cezin is part of a new generation of Canadian chefs who are reclaiming and popularizing indigenous foods as part of a growing culinary affirmation of identity. “Embracing this cuisine is a form of taking back what is ours,” she said a few months ago, when @renaudphilippe took this photo. Many young people @dan_bilefsky spoke to in Maniwaki credited strong women — like Cezin — for changing their lives.
