28 million lbs. of recently harvested almonds are piled up and covered with tarps in the storage yard of Salida Hulling, near Modesto CA, waiting to be shelled and hulled for their growers. Last year California produced some 2.2 billion pounds of #almonds, which is some 60% of the global supply. Each nut consumes about a gallon of #water.
