In “Petra,” his new work that opens on January 23 at @performancespacenewyork, @dmossette explores race, desire and power and takes inspiration from Fassbinder’s “The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant.” Here, Petra is the elegant @kanezaschaal; her object of obsession, Karin, is played by @samita.sinha who is also the work’s composer. “In the film, there’s a little moment at the very beginning of the scene where it’s just feet moving around as Petra’s getting dressed,” Dean said. “That moment felt expandable.” He's created this hypnotic scene that's like a wave of choreography you could ride. “We have this pure artifice of Kaneza,” he told the @ニューヨーク・タイムズ writer @giadk. “This amazing statuesque presence with glacial-like movement. Smooth and steady. And Samita, who gives a more realistic, down-to-earth kind of performance. It’s a clash of style.” And who is Marlene?
