David's father also had a passion for Chinese export porcelain, particularly the ‘palace ware’ pattern (as it was then known) – richly decorated pieces with extensive gilt borders and unique court scenes.

David inherited pieces from both his father’s and aunt’s extensive Chinese export collections and added purchases of his own. The collecting community took note of the family's association with the pattern, and 'palace ware' is now known as ‘Rockefeller’ porcelain.

‘I like to think of these dinner services reflecting candlelight in the gorgeous dining room of the Rockefellers’ 65th Street house,’ says our specialist Becky MacGuire, ‘surrounded by antique Chinese wallpaper, and being enjoyed by the friends and family the Rockefellers loved to entertain.’
