There is an #endemic species lives on the southern slopes, called Hungarian #naked #lily (Colchicum hungaricum). One mountain, one slope. Nowhere else in the world. Pretty dramatic, isn't it? They bloom the earliest in #Hungary, sometimes at Christmas. Just like these days, when we witness unusually warm weather... This is a chrastic mountain, with strange formations. Like deep erosion holes in the rocks. Many of them filed with soil, providing small
habitat for moss and other plants, even the lily. The mountain is extremely rich in a snail species, called Zebrina detrita. I visit this mountain for decades, but never been so lucky the witness such seen: a hole filled with empty shells and a lily in blossom! Taken about 30 miles drive and hours of careful climb in between the rocks. No need to travel far away for fantastic experience. Travel less, discover your backyard, reduce your ecological footprint!
