Photo by @amivitale.  A young monk reaches for the last pears before winter arrives in Bhumthang, Bhutan. The tiny Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan, landlocked between India and China, had no paved roads until the 1960s, was off-limits to foreigners until 1974, and launched television only in 1999. Bhutanese do not rely on Gross Domestic Product as the best indicator of their progress. Instead they measure success by “Gross National Happiness.” This index measures people's quality of life and Bhutan has been continually ranked as the happiest country in the world.  So if you want to visit the happiest place on earth, put Bhutan on your travel bucket list.  Follow @amivitale for more #inspiring stories from around the world. #bhutan #buddhism #himalayas #asia  #amivitale @ナショナルジオグラフィック @natgeocreative @thephotosociety #seetheworld  #photooftheday #photojournalism
