Jim Bob Barnett (@_jim_bob) was sitting with his girlfriend at home in southern California on Dec. 4 when their power went out. "So we drove around Santa Barbara looking for the cause," Barnett tells TIME. "We came across a Con Edison Crew. They told us it was the #ThomasFire that had knocked power out from Santa Paula to Goleta! So we headed to our work in Summerland where we thought we might have a view of it and sure enough we did." Barnett, who made this panorama, combined three pictures that he shot with a Canon 5D Mark III and a Canon 85mm f/1.2 lens. The brush fire began just north of Santa Paula in Ventura County and burned through at least 31,000 acres. As of Tuesday afternoon, at least 27,000 people evacuated their homes; at least 150 structures have been destroyed in #VenturaCounty. Photograph by @_jim_bob
