An explosive wildfire that led to the evacuation of thousands of homes in southern California could soon threaten Ventura, a city of more than 100,000. The Associated Press reports that the blaze began on Dec. 4 and quickly grew to more than 15 square miles, consuming vegetation that hasn’t burned in decades, according to Ventura County Fire Sgt. Eric Buschow. Most of the homes in Santa Paula were evacuated as winds pushed the fire toward the city of some 30,000. Ventura, about 12 miles southwest, was expected to feel the effects soon. “The fire growth is just absolutely exponential,” Ventura's fire chief said. Video source: KEYT
