A day after the first anniversary of Fidel Castro's death, millions of Cubans submitted paper ballots into cardboard boxes in local elections. Some 27,000 candidates are vying for more than 12,500 ward positions, the results of which will be announced on Monday, Reuters reports. In February, a new national assembly (half of which will be populated by these elections) will elect a successor to President Raúl Castro, Fidel's brother.
