This is Nickel, a female chimp cradling her newborn baby Teva, while they’re sleeping in a tree in the Fongoli region of southeast Senegal. There are less than 200 chimps left in Senegal and their future hangs in the balance, just like it does for all chimps in Africa. We worked with Nickel and the rest of her family for six weeks, following them on foot through their forest and were able to capture unique behavior never documented before.
