Hundreds of thousands pro-unity supporters took part in a demonstration in Barcelona on Oct. 29, 2017, calling for Catalonia to remain in Spain and backing Prime Minister Rajoy's use of unprecedented constitutional powers to wrest control from the pro-independence regional administration. Catalonia's regional parliament proclaimed independence from Spain in a secret ballot Friday.
