On September 20th, Hurricane Maria swept through Puerto Rico causing the most damage of any natural disaster in 85 years. It came ashore with sustained winds of 155mph, knocking out power to the entire island. Trees were uprooted, homes were destroyed, and there was also widespread flooding. Loiza was devastated leaving many without homes. Over a month after Hurricane Maria devastated this U.S. territory in the Caribbean, individuals and charities on the U.S. mainland trying to send supplies to the island are facing a series of bottlenecks that are keeping help from reaching those most in need.
