Photo by @CarltonWard // In a state best known for its beaches and amusement parks, Florida also has a statewide network of forests and nature preserves that host a tremendous diversity of wildlife. This Florida black bear triggered one of my camera traps in Florida Panther National Wildlife Refuge near Naples. From the cypress swamps of South Florida to the longleaf pines of the of the western panhandle near Pensacola, Florida forests are home to seven populations of black bears. Ocala National Forest in Central Florida might be the best place to see a bear. As a wide ranging species, the bear show us that we need to protect wildlife corridors to keep its primary forest habitats connected to one another. Without corridors, development will isolate existing forests into islands cut off from one another to the detriment of bears and myriad other species. Please follow @CarltonWard to see more hidden wildlife as I follow the #pathofthepanther with the help of a storytelling grant from @ナショナルジオグラフィック. #florida #bear @fl_wildcorridor #floridawild #keepflwild
