#Movementmondays Enrique Martín Morales (most commonly known as Ricky Martin) is a Puerto Rican singer, actor, and author. At 9-years-old, Martin began appearing in Puerto Rican television commercials. At age 12, he became a member of the all-boy pop group Menudo. In early 1999, after releasing several albums in Spanish, Martin performed "La copa de la vida" (The Cup of Life) at the 41st Annual Grammy Awards show, which became a catalyst in bringing Martin to the forefront of the U.S. music scene. Following its success, Martin released "Livin' la Vida Loca", which helped him attain enormous success worldwide; it is generally seen as the song that began the Latin pop explosion of 1999 and made the transition easier for other Spanish-speaking artists to move into the English-speaking market. Since then, Martin has continued his success by releasing a handful of Spanish & English albums, he penned an autobiography in 2010 that made New York Times bestseller, appeared as a coach on The Voice Australia & The Voice Mexico, and wrote a children’s book titled Santiago the Dreamer in Land Among the Stars. Martin is also the founder of Fundación Ricky Martin (Ricky Martin Foundation), a non-profit organization with the mission to advocate for the wellbeing of children around the world. Recently, Martin traveled to his home country Puerto Rico where he distributed basic necessities to those affected by Hurricane Maria. Martin went on the Ellen show twice to ask people to help, he exclaimed: “We were destroyed by a hurricane and it’s been very difficult,” Martin said on the show. “Right now, there is no water, there is no electricity, there is no food. There is no medicine. There is no diesel for the generators that will make the hospital work. People are dying. So, as a Puerto Rican, as the American that I am, I’m here to ask for your help.” Martin added in his second appearance on Ellen: "The governor of Puerto Rico said yesterday it will cost us $90 billion to bring Puerto Rico back to where it was," and every dollar that goes to his YouCaring page "will make a difference" in helping the island recover. Donations have grown to over 2.8 million. ??????
