Rachel Maddow’s entrance into broadcasting began as a lark. She was writing her doctoral thesis and doing odd jobs in western Massachusetts when she heard about a local radio audition to announce the morning news. In 2008, she got her own TV show and, since the election, she has become liberals’ favorite storyteller. “I happened to have a fascination with crazy right-wing racist politics—and all of a sudden that’s relevant. It’s my moment,” she says. Click the link in our bio to read Janet Malcolm’s Profile of the MSNBC star. Photograph by @paridukovic for TNY.
