@victorblue took this photo yesterday as Puerto Ricans bathed in a natural spring in the hill town of Toa Alta. More than 3 million Americans in #PuertoRico are struggling to meet basic needs after a devastating strike from Hurricane Maria. Residents face obstacles in navigating almost every step toward a normal life, with little hope of dramatic progress anytime soon. Today, President Trump said that he would visit the devastated island next week, describing it as “literally destroyed” after the storm. The president said he has had to delay the usual presidential visit to survey a natural disaster because of the extensive damage to the island, vast portions of which remain crumbled and without power. “We don’t want to disrupt the relief effort,” he said. But he bragged about the response by the federal government in the aftermath of the storm. Critics, including some Republicans, have assailed President Trump for not saying more about the crisis.
