'The Mount Roy hike in Wanaka was something new to me in New Zealand. I love #Wanaka to bits (often preferring it to its wild big brother down the street - #Queenstown), and always stay as long as possible. I couldn't believe in all the years I'd visited, I'd never heard of this hike. When I saw the views, I had to make it happen. It isn’t an easy hike though, with around 3 hours of steep, ascending trail until you reach the summit at 1,578m (5,177 ft). It honestly was the first time I have ever thought I wasn't going to be able to make a summit, especially with a huge load of camera gear on my back. I wasn’t about to show up at the summit though without the proper tools I’d need to capture the views! Luckily I had fit friends along with me offering to help carry the load, and the views and photos were worth every bit of the sweat and aching muscles it took to get there. We spent the entire day up on the peak gazing in awe, and then finally walked back down into the sleepy sunset.
