When aurora activity is intense Its form can appear to boil with motion. Its colors can range across the entire spectrum and, when bright, it can easily cast a shadow.
I felt in love with these dancing lights when I first photographed them in 2003 in Antarctica. Here is a spectacular night of March in Iceland. The northern lights appear above waterfalls streaming out of a lava field into Hvita river. The colors are usually very pale to the eyes and not comparable to the camera’s long exposure capability. But when the lights are intense, like this moment, the green and even some red and purple are finely visible to the eyes.
