We invited Awkwafina (@awkwafina) into Christie’s to meet our specialist Vicki Paloympis (@markandperiod) and take a look at highlights from our New York #AsianArtWeek.

Here, the two look at a Hundred Deer Vase (it has 50-60 deer on it, not 100, Vicki counted). The subject of deer has a long history in Chinese. The Chinese word for 'deer' bai lu (百鹿), is a homonym for bailu (百祿) 'civil service salary'; the 'hundred deer' therefore represent the ultimate success, a career in government service in Imperial China.
