Photo by @Tim Laman. A male Goldie’s Bird of Paradise displaying in the canopy on Fergusson Island, Papua New Guinea. I’m excited to have this image in the “Wildlife as Canon Sees It” page in @ナショナルジオグラフィック magazine this month (Sep 2017), but really that means bad news for this species, because they only feature endangered species for that page. This bird is only found on two small islands off the E coast of Papua New Guinea, and current population estimate for the entire species is only 650!
