Photo by @Tim Laman. One of the great things about going back to #GunungPalung in Borneo every year is getting to see some of the same wild orangutans that we have known for years. One of those is the female Walimah, pictured here back in 2009. It was great to see her again this year and see how she was doing. We never get too close to the wild orangutans, but the habituated ones like Walimah who have been followed by the research team on and off for years, are the easiest to get pictures of. I especially like getting photos that show the orangutans in their forest home, so people can see how wild orangutans live. Preserving their forest is what is most critical to their long term survival.
