Post 3 of Eddie Bauer adventure guide @Tbfrost 's Takeover. Trevor Frost is sharing scenes and insights from his recent trip to British Columbia and Southeast Alaska with @Natgeoexpeditions. #LiveYourAdventure "Dawes Glacier in the Ford Terror Wilderness of Southeast Alaska is a highly active glacier and can be seen calving - losing large pieces of ice - on a daily basis. To witness large pieces of a glacier, some the size of small buildings, fall off and crash into the ocean below is humbling to say the least. I had seen glaciers calve before but one thing I had not noticed was how many birds, mostly terns, flock to the area where the glacier fell into the water. It turns out the falling ice stirs up the rich coastal waters and brings food to the surface. Amazing that these birds have learned and one generation of terns teaches the next.
