*This post is intended to share information based on my own experience, & documented cases, not to pass judgment or shame people. Everyone's situations and outcomes are different. Some of you w/ de-clawed cats may have had no post surgery issues but many have which is why it's banned in many countries and in some states in this country. It's also not to insinuate that all declawed cats will have issues...we don't want to deter anyone from adopting a declawed cat.
It's been said that declawed cats become biters. Well, 11 yrs ago, before we became educated on what declawing really is, we had Ginger's front claws removed as the vet recommended as a combo while she was being spayed. This was a very common recommendation & procedure coupled with spaying/neutering and in many veterinarians in the United States, still is. ?? Again, this was before our involvement in rescue and before so much light has been shed on the truth. Hindsight is 20/20 and that said, we were wrong and learned from our mistake. Ginger IS a biter and we often wonder what other long term consequential side effects she might have suffered because of our ignorance. ?
She was the last cat we ever had that procedure done on because we along with providing many scratch posts, we regularly trim the claws on the paws in this house with little to no resistance from the kitties attached to those paws.?
