Photo by @FransLanting Backpacking into a deep canyon in the American Southwest is an otherworldly experience. You feel like you’re getting swallowed up by the earth itself. On this particular trip we got surprised by a flash flood caused by a thunderstorm upstream and we were pinned down on a narrow raised beach watching a raging river carry debris downstream.
