This week The Duke of Kent has been visiting County Down in Northern Ireland. On a visit to Down Cathedral, The Duke laid a wreath on the granite stone in the churchyard which marks St Patrick’s burial place.
HRH visited Downpatrick PSNI station and officially named the MV Strangford II ferry. Whilst visiting the ferry The Duke presented Strangford crew member John Nixon with a Royal Humane Society commendation for bravery. John assisted in saving the life of a woman during an incident at Portavogie harbour in April 2016.
The Duke also visited Exploris Aquarium in Portaferry, which has been reopened after a £1.5M refurbishment. It is Northern Ireland's only aquarium and seal sanctuary.
