The Micronesian atoll of Pingelap is sometimes called “The Island of the Colorblind.” Most of its population is affected by complete achromatopsia, or total color blindness. A few years ago, the Belgian photographer Sanne De Wilde travelled there to shoot traditional black-and-white photographs and digital-infrared images, which she used to challenge her own understanding of color. After returning to Amsterdam, she asked color-blind collaborators to paint over some of the black-and-white pictures, which will be released in a book this month. Check out our Instagram story to see more of her work. Photograph by Sanne De Wilde.
