Summer is the season of #soccer, and there’s an abundance of top-quality soccer available in New York City — if you know where to look. So @nytimessports sent the reporter Victor Mather and @justin.gilliland, a photo intern for @ニューヨーク・タイムズ, on a scouting trip. The 2 visited 4 teams in 4 leagues within the NYC limits. At the top of the heap was Major League Soccer (@Major League Soccer), with well-known players, big contracts and first-rate stadiums. @ニューヨーク・シティFC doesn’t have its state-of-the-art soccer facility yet, so it’s playing on a narrow field at Yankee Stadium, where players pop in and out of the dugouts like Aaron Judge (@thejudge44). At @ニューヨーク・シティFC, you can buy a stuffed @ダビド・ビジャ for $25 or bacon on a stick for $7.50. And the Yankee Stadium lights flash around the stadium after goals. But Victor and @justin.gilliland didn’t limit their scouting to the pros. They also checked out the amateur and developmental leagues, attending @nycosmos, @bklynitalians and @fa_euro games. @justin.gilliland took this photo of @fa_euro playing @jersey_express1 last month at @stjohnsu’s Belson Stadium in Queens.
