Officials had warned rail #commuters from New Jersey and Long Island to get ready for a “summer of hell.” But the commute was relatively smooth on the first day of track closings and disruptions at New York’s Penn Station. Commuters left home early to troubleshoot new routes — which included buses and #ferries — and stations were staffed by transit workers ready to offer guidance. (On top of that, it's possible that people took the day off or worked from home.) But some riders worry that things might fall apart during the afternoon rush. With fewer trains leaving the station later in the day, commuters may face longer waits. Early this morning, @justin.gilliland took this photo from a @nywaterway ferry leaving Hoboken, New Jersey, for 39th Street in Manhattan.
